The parish council received an email from Oxfordshire County Council on the 5th of June advertising the start of the Oxfordshire Quiet Lanes pilot programme. This email was requesting expressions of interest. The email we received was clear that to be considered for a quiet lane, the route must be:

  • supported by parish and town councils and local county councillors
  • have a suitable alternative route for motor vehicles available nearby
  • function primarily for local access, and be not a strategic thoroughfare
  • have an evidence-based need such as be experiencing inappropriate levels of through traffic or inappropriately high speeds
  • be suitable and meet feasibility requirements.

The parish council has not made any expressions of interests regarding any roads within the parish. This matter will be added to the agenda for our next parish council meeting in July.

The parish council has received many emails from residents objecting to this proposal as a result of a news article published on the BBC website suggesting that the West Lockinge road has been nominated as a Quiet Lane. This nomination did not originate from the parish council and we are actively progressing this issue with our county councillor.

The parish council will collate all responses received and anyone wishing to speak on this issue in person would be very welcome to attend our next full parish council meeting on Tuesday 7th of July in the Loyd Lindsay Rooms.
